Roustabout Jobs - What Are They?

Partner, I can tell you that a roustabout job is about as low as you can get at an offshore oil rig job. The work is dirty, the hours are long (try a couple of weeks of 12 hour days working seven days a week). It does not matter if the sun is shining or there’s straight-line gale force wind and rain, you still work outside.

You’re gonna get beat up physically with the work and if you don’t watch what you are doing you can lose a finger or two. So why in hell would anyone want to be a roustabout? Well, for starters, you only work half a year and depending on who you work for you’ll probably make $40 to $50 grand a year. The food and a place to sleep are taken care of for you and you are treated pretty damn well for what you do. I’ll write more about roustabout jobs soon.
